> Relevant Translation Experience:
I am 26 years old and lived in Germany for 20 years before moving to the U.S. in 2000. I went to German schools until I was 18. I speak, read and write German and English fluently.

I have been doing translation work for the past seven years. One of my first projects was translating a five page German letter into English. A woman here in Wilmington had found said letter in her house; it was from a relative dated around 1963..

I also translated a 17 page law document for a law firm here in Wilmington, NC. The firm was trying a case and needed someone to translate some important documents from German into English. It was challenging, but very rewarding in the end. It was interesting for me to come in contact with this kind of legal language.

Next I translated a 17 page family history dating back to the 17th century. It was intriguing for me to work with the Old German and the vocabulary associated with it, as it was completely new to me.

While I was in college getting my Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, I tutored students approximately three days a week. They were mostly taking beginner's German classes, although some were quite advanced. We did their homework and worked on spelling and pronounciation.

Currently I am tutoring a woman and her daughter before they go to Germany to live for a year. I'm helping translate web pages and also e-mails that the woman is receiving from her future landlord in Germany. This has been particularly fun since I know the German culture so well and can practically picture this landlord in Southern Germany in her quaint, little hotel.

I am also working on translating some forms a friend sent to me. She is going to get married in Berlin to an American and there are several papers they both must complete. I am helping her fiance to understand said forms so he can fill them out and send them back to Germany.

-October 2006: 10 page translation from German into Englsh; subject: horticulture

July 2007-

I am currently tutoring 8-year-old twins in German. Their father is German and their mother is American. The parents would like for them to become more confident in speaking German, as they understand very much already. It has been a great experience for me. They are very smart children!
